Water Use Licensing
SASOL INTEGRATED WATER USE LICENSE APPLICATION
MDT Environmental were appointed to review and update the petrochemical giant’s Integrated Water Use License (IWUL) to submit to the Department of Water and Sanitation for two sites in Free State Province. The project entailed the compilation of the IWULA supporting technical report, high-level water quality assessments, environmental risk assessment, public participation process and liaison with relevant authorities.

CITY OF TSHWANE FLOOD MANAGEMENT
MDT Environmental, as lead consultant, with SRK Consulting and AECOM as sub-consultants, assisted the City of Tshwane with flood, environmental and dam safety management assessments. This included the development of flood management plans, flood-line studies and identifying potential flood hazards.

KUSILE POWER STATION
MDT Environmental were appointed as sub-consultant to the Sebata Group to prepare Environmental Applications in terms of relevant environmental legislation. Kusile is a coal-fired power station under construction in Mpumalanga. MDT Environmental prepared the Rectification Applications to legalise activities at the site. Other applications include Environmental Authorisation for construction within rivers and wetlands, including a Wetland Management Plan. MDT also prepared an integrated Waste Management Licence for the Kusile 10-year ash/gypsum facility and related infrastructure.

SUN INTERNATIONAL SUN CITY COMPLEX
MDT Environmental were appointed to prepare an application for an Integrated Water Use License (IWUL) for the entertainment complex and resort in 2009. Related projects included the application for an Integrated Waste Management License, the analysis and classification of sewage treatment sludge, as well as quarterly operational and compliance audits of the Wastewater Treatment Plan.

LEEUWKOP PLATINUM MINE
MDT Environmental played a key role in assisting SLR Consulting in securing environmental authorisations for the platinum mine in the North West Province. With a change in Leeuwkop’s mining methods and an extension of mining rights, the mine had to amend their approved Environmental Management Programme. MDT Environmental was appointed to conduct the Public Participation Process for the process and to update the existing Water Use License.
